Crime is at record highs and our political “leaders” have waged war on the NYPD by defunding them a billion dollars. Meanwhile, the City Council is erecting homeless shelters, halfway houses, and jails feet away from schools. We should not be defunding the police - we should be defending them the way they defend us.
According to CrimeStat (the NYPD databank) Rapes climbed 7%; felony assaults rose 13%, and robberies spiked 26%. Burglary ballooned 23%; grand larceny surged 26% ; and car theft soared 32%. NYPD officer retirements have risen to the highest levels since post 9/11.
We are alienating and demonizing our only line of defense against crime and anarchy. That is why I will fight to get the NYPD the tools that they need to properly defend our streets.
The Council has voted to close down Rikers Island and open four new jails throughout the city. This is scheduled for 2026.This deal was made by DeBlasio and Speaker Johnson.
Mayor DeBlasio maintained that this was because the jails were unfit to house people but this is untrue. The real reason is that multi-billion dollar developers have plans to turn Rikers island into one giant luxury condominium; forget about the safety of everyday NYer's being put at risk.
The Council has the power to reverse this deal. This campaign supports keeping Rikers open and using some of that 8.7B earmarked for new jails to renovate the current complex.
As a mom of three I see the issues that pervade our public school system everyday. The problem isn’t the teachers and staff; the problem is bureaucracy and mismanagement.
It’s no wonder that NYC public schools have lost a record number of students these past several school years. Let’s get the government and union big-shots out of our schools and let teachers teach.
We need to maintain the academic rigor of Gifted & Talented programs and other standardized tests. Furthermore, we need to build a bridge between public and private school communities, and responsibly. This campaign is a supporter of “race-blind” and merit-based admissions tests.
It is in the best interest of parents and students for the City Council to enact legislation that will encourage educational choice programs via tax vouchers, credits and/or deductions for parents with children in charter or private school. The Dept. of Education, religious institutions, and charter schools should all be working together to provide the best option for families across New York - not the best option for union big shots and ivory tower elites who fund corrupt politicians.
We need to enact legislation that would force the city to reduce its spending and debt. Every New Yorker must balance their bank book - so should our city council.
Currently NYC is holding almost 86 billion dollars in debt. That’s roughly 10k per New Yorker! Our elected officials are spending like a teenager with a new credit card and we are being left with the bill.
This campaign is in favor of the institution of a hybrid program where the assets (pensions) are gradually taken off the books. We are advocating that people be given the option to privatize their pensions should they wish. This option is good for the city because we will strike those obligations from the books; this option is also good for the pensioners as they will make a higher return on investment and be more in control of their finances.
The state of New York is in an economic crisis; we are hemorrhaging our population and our money. Our current representation and legislature offer no solution other than increasing taxes and fees. This is one of the many reasons why NYC is one of the most expensive places in the country to live; it is also why there is an exodus of the tax base.
It is our goal to eliminate and reduce nuisance taxes and fees so that our middle class isn’t squeezed out of existence. More money in the economy is good for the economy. If the population has more money in their pockets, then NYC will get more than its fair share by the natural flow of cash in the marketplace. This makes sense because a healthy economy produces a healthy revenue for sales tax and income tax.
We need fair and equitable solutions to the unequal tax burden currently shouldered by the middle class.
As your representative I promise you I will never vote to raise your taxes and will fight to lower the burden for the middle class.
Not only is city hall filled with trash, so are our streets. Since the passage of the Commercial Waste Zones bill of 2019 and DeBlasio’s budget cuts to the Sanitation Department, the city has been a mess - and this mess is quickly spreading to outer districts like our.
This bill mandates arbitrary and ever-changing waste management standards and eliminates smaller waste companies who can’t afford to meet these ridiculous standards. We want to prioritize competition in the city’s private waste management sectors as well as increase funding and provide competent leadership for the Department of Sanitation.
If we fix our garbage problem our rodent and infestation problems will also be significantly curbed. Right now we have a public health crisis because of the city government's inept handling of our waste disposal.
